FLOATING POND PLANTS: Floating pond plants have leaves and stems that float just below or on the surface of the water. The roots stretch underwater. Floating pond plants fight algae, provide shelter, and look great in waterfalls and header ponds. Floating pond plants grow best in summer and need to be kept at bay. These plants can quickly cover the surface of your pond. Types of pond floating plants include: Ferry Moss, Duckweed, Water Hyacinth, Pennywort, Sensitive Plant, Parrot’s Feather, Water Lettuce, and Frogbit.
FERRY MOSS DUCK WEED
Once this plant is in your pond, it is there to stay! It gets everywhere. If you don’t have a skimmer intake on your pond, we recommend not adding this floating plant to your pond. Think twice before adding this plant to the pond. Once it is in your pond, it is there to stay! This plant can wreak havoc on your pond. Without a skimmer intake, this plant will take over the entire pond.

  HYACINTH PENNYWORT
Our favorite type of floating aquatic plant. Works great as added filtration when added to a header pond. Beautiful lavender flowers. Needs lots of sun and water temps above 70ºF. This plant provides great shelter for fish or looks nice along a waterfall’s edge. Careful with this one, evasive and hard to remove. Pennywort grows year round, but does not flower.

SENSITIVE PLANT PARROT FEATHER
This interesting aquatic pond plant grows up to 6” and spreads out to 36”. Small, soft leaves close up when touched. A delicate plant that blooms small yellow flowers in temps above 70ºF. Another one of our favorites. Looks nice when full and abundant. Fills in the edges of your pond nicely. Looks great on waterfall ledges. Prefers warmer temps. Sensitive to koi medications and conditioners.

WATER LETTUCE FROGBIT
Beautiful floating plant that is similar in nature as the Water Hyacinth. Some prefer not to have this plant because it attracts bees, spiders, and lots of aphids. This plant resembles a mini water lily. Pleasant heart shaped leaves with small yellow flowers. Requires lots of sun, spreads quick, but looks nice. Another nice addition to the pond.
