ULTRAVIOLET SERVICE: Pond U.V. filters have two primary uses: 1. Controlling Single Cell Algae (green water) 2. Disinfecting the pond water supply. When used with a biological filter, an U.V. System can produce an extremely clean and healthy environment for your koi.
Cleaner pond water for your koi will result in healthier koi immune systems. Pond U.V. systems sterilize and clarify pond water by eradicating targeted pathogens such as aeromonas bacteria. Be careful though, too much U.V. radiation can also eradicate beneficial bacteria. Install proper U.V. wattage for your size pond. Ponds equipped with U.V. sterilizers will promote healthier, vibrant koi, faster growth rates, and stronger defense systems against disease and illness.
U.V. LAMP MAINTENANCE: Generally, most U.V. Systems have a spectrum lamp life of 12-14 months. Be sure to replace U.V. lamps annually. If your pond suddenly turns “pea soup” green, it is a good sign your U.V. lamps need to be replaced.
U.V. QUARTZ SLEEVE SERVICE: Quartz sleeve housings for U.V. lamps need to be kept cleaned to guarantee U.V. spectrum effectiveness. Remove mineral deposits from sleeves every six months.
